I return to Nosara again and again. It was the first destination surf trip I ever took and I’ve been there 20 times since. There’s something special and magical about the people it attracts and the surf break is one of a kind. There’s always a wave and it’s a sandy bottom beach which is super hard to find and conducive to beginners. It has all the luxuries you need (great food, yoga, boutique shopping) and none of the ones you don’t (big chain resort hotels for example).
One of my favorite things about Nosara is that they do not allow any construction directly on the beach, so when you stroll down to the beach at sunset to watch the surfers in the water (or to surf yourself) you feel really connected to nature. Having been to Nosara many times, I also have built relationships with wonderful people from surf instructors to yoga teachers and hotel owners. I’m excited to head back soon.
Nosara has some amazing boutique hotels that make your stay as relaxing and beautiful as the surroundings. Here are my favorites:
Sendero Hotel (where we host our annual Surf Retreat) is a boutique hotel designed to combine relaxed silhouettes, muted palettes, and earthy materials. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel immediately at ease, fully immersed in the magic of Nosara.
Right next door you’ll find Silvestre Nosara. With stylish accommodations, a refreshing pool, and close proximity to the beach, It’s a gem for travelers looking for a mix of tranquility and style.
If you’re looking for something more zen, I recommend Harmony Hotel; it’s like immediately stepping into a sanctuary. Offering eco-friendly luxury surrounded by lush gardens, this place is perfect for travelers looking to unwind and reconnect.Photo Credit: Marine Jaud and Ten Toes Surf.
Nosara’s food scene is as amazing as everything else about this town. One of my all-time favorite spots is La Luna, a beachfront restaurant with incredible Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Trust me, the hummus platter and wood-fired pizzas are unforgettable—especially when you’re watching the ocean at sunset.
For something more casual, check out El Chivo. It’s got the best tacos, craft cocktails, and a super fun vibe, especially on live music nights.
And if you’re craving something fresh and healthy after a yoga class, Organico is where it’s at. Their smoothies and hearty bowls always hit the spot.
Nosara has earned its reputation as a yoga and wellness hub, and every visit leaves me feeling more grounded and connected. One of my favorite yoga experiences happens at Harmony Hotel, where daily yoga classes are held in a serene jungle studio. Practicing here, surrounded by nature, feels like pure magic.
Another can’t-miss experience is yoga with Rebecca Kovacs. Rebecca brings a calming, soulful energy to every class, blending mindfulness and movement in a way that speaks to both beginners and experienced yogis. Her sessions are so much more than yoga—they’re a chance to reset and reconnect with yourself.
Now let’s talk surfing. Nosara is truly a surfer’s dream, and the town is full of incredible surf schools to help you make the most of the waves. I highly recommend Ten Toes Surf for a fun, approachable, and hands-on experience. Their instructors are fantastic, whether you’re a total beginner or someone looking to refine your technique.
If you’re looking for a deeper dive into surf coaching, check out Surf Simply. Known for their world-class coaching program, Surf Simply takes a technical, yet incredibly fun, approach to surfing. It’s the kind of place where you can walk away feeling truly transformed in both skill and confidence.
Nosara’s local shops are full of treasures. I always make time to visit Love Nosara, a boutique with beautiful handmade cotton clothing that’s great for the heat. For bikinis, I love Mantaraya – Angie, the shop owner is amazing and will help you find the perfect suit.
